Sports Day and Picnic Day 2011

Dear Parents

We had two VERY exciting Saturdays: the sports day (19 February 2011) and the picnic day (19 March 2011). With the sports day the learners were dressed in the primary colours. Red and Blue had to step aside for a display of YELLOW - the winning team. At Springfied Preparatory School our aim is FUN in learning and even on this day the learners have learned balancing on stilts,  balancing jelly on a spoon and how to hop like a frog. Sprints were the highlight of the day and the grade 0's up to grade 3 showed us who can run the fastest. We were ready with an easter egg as an incentive for the winner, needless to say that it encouraged everybody to run their fastest.

Parents were also encouraged to take part in the Springfield Preparatory School sports day. Mothers lift their dresses high in order to get the most out of their running ability. Some mothers even tried to run shorter distances by starting at their own assigned starting line. Grandmothers, aged 60 and above, also showed their ability to run fast and, yes, they did surprise us! Fathers weren't excluded from the fun: tug-of-war was their event. The winners were the men standing while the losers had a pile-up. This day was filled with fun and laughter!

The Picnic Day was exciting seeing that the rain contributed to an indoor picnic. The two grade one classrooms at Springfield Preparatory School were transformed in rooms filled with happy parents and food aromas. The aim for this day, was to mingle with teachers and parents. The learners had an opportunity to build architectural wonders with their legos. The last hour of our picnic allowed the learners to play on the big, outstretched playground. It was great to have the opportunity to communicate with the very supportive parents at Springfield Preparatory School. All the compliments and encouragement which we have received, help us to stay motivated through the year.

Thank you to all the parents and learners who supported these two days. It was great to touch base with all of you and thanks for the encouragement which we need to build a GREAT school.

Regards,

Cornel
